No judgement from me. I don’t care if Baz turns my favourite novel into a ‘beautiful little fool’. That’s all I need.

Oh My.
This trailer’s got the BATH AND PEARLS scene.
HOLY MOLY!

If you don’t know it… there’s a part of the book where Jordan tells Nick of Daisy’s relationship with Gatsby in Louisville and of her marriage to Tom. Despite the $350,000-dollar string of pearls around her neck, when Daisy receives a letter from Gatsby the night before her wedding, she is ready to call the whole thing off. Gatsby’s appeal far surpasses Tom’s, and the pearls quickly end up in the wastebasket.

The important point to recognise here, my friendlies, is that Gatsby is as much an ideal to Daisy as she is to him. WHAT? SHE’S NOT AS EVIL AS WE ALL MAKE OUT?!

Oh, no! In fact, ONLY Gatsby looks at her — creates her, makes her come to herself — “in a way that every young girl wants to be looked at some time”. Thus, it is only after she is FORCED into an ice cold bath and the letter which she clutches has crumbled “like snow” that Daisy can marry Tom “without so much as a shiver”. She has been baptised in ice, and with her romantic impulses effectively frozen, Daisy becomes “paralysed” with conventional happiness as Mrs. Tom Buchanan. Her present ideal, transmitted to her daughter, is to be a “beautiful little fool”, because that is the “best thing a girl can be in this world”.

All I’m saying is:

LET’s NOT JUDGE BAZ FOR ALL THE GLITZ AND GLAM. THE IMPORTANT SHIT IS THERE:

There’s a green light at the end of the dock  (and, apparently a song about it?… woop woop)
There’s a dramatic bath tub scene (see above)
There’s an F-off billboard featuring an eye (is it God, or is it simply Doctor T.J. Eckleburg?)
Leo’s flying silk shits around
We’re comparing the East and the West (coast, that is, daaaarlings)
And we’ve got a valley of ashes, where fast cars and faster women reside.

I mean, guys, IT’S ALL THERE, OK? SO BACK OFF!

All in all, I’m sure my excessive use of capitalised letters has alerted you to the fact that I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT SEEING ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS COME TO LIFE (minus Robert Redford, thank gawwwd).

YAYAYAYAYAY!
